Welcome to the new Plumbers, Pipefitters and Service Technicians, Local 422 Web site.

Survivor Benefits

The Plan allows you to provide pension payments after your death to your Spouse or Beneficiary. Some of the survivor benefits are provided automatically, while others require an election on your part.

The amount of the pension benefit will depend upon your age at the time of your death and whether your death occurs before or after you retire, as described in detail in the Retirement and Pension Summary Plan Description (SPD) booklet.

Pre-Retirement Surviving Spouse Annuity Benefit

If you die before you Retire, your surviving Spouse will receive a Pre-Retirement Surviving Spouse Annuity Benefit. This benefit is also available to your spouse if you die while receiving a disability pension. This benefit is available if:

Pre-Retirement Death Benefit

If you die before retiring with a pension, a Death Benefit will be paid to your surviving spouse or, if there is no surviving spouse, your natural and legally adopted children, in equal shares. To be eligible for the Death Benefit, you must have worked at least 300 hours in Covered Employment in the Plan Year in which you died or the previous Plan Year, or have five or more years of vesting service. The amount of the Death Benefit is equal to 50% of the Employer contributions made to the Pension Plan on your behalf.

The Death Benefit is NOT payable to your beneficiary or beneficiaries if you have a spouse or if an alternate payee under a QDRO is eligible for the Pre-retirement Surviving Spouse Annuity. The Death Benefit is not payable if you have no spouse or children.

After Retirement

If you die after your pension payments have started, the form of payment you selected will determine any survivor benefits. Refer to the Retirement and Pension Summary Plan Description (SPD) booklet for an explanation of the forms of payment and for more information on survivor benefits.
