New Online Retirement Application Available

On January 6, 2009, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced the availability of its new online retirement application for individuals who want to apply for their Social Security retirement benefits.

Creation of this online capability was said to be driven by the needs of 80 million baby boomers who are becoming eligible for retirement at a rate of 10,000 a day for the next 20 years.

According to the SSA:

• The application process can be completed in 15 minutes,
• There are no paper forms to sign, and,
• In most cases, no additional documents are required.

The online application is at http://www.ssa.gov.
